Greetings Beloved,
Tricia Hersey, founder of the Nap Ministry, wrote something that reorganized how I think about rest in organizational contexts.
She wrote that rest is resistance. Not as a slogan. As a strategic and political act, a deliberate refusal to participate in systems of extraction that depend on human depletion for their continued operation. (Hersey, "Rest Is Resistance," 2022)
I want to bring that frame into the boardroom. Because what Hersey describes at the individual level is also true at the organizational level: cultures that have been so thoroughly conditioned by the logic of extraction that they treat rest, genuine rest, structural protection of human capacity, as a luxury rather than an operational necessity.
Organizations that protect human capacity and promote rest as an organizational structure elevate wellbeing for their people.
That protection is what we call Rejuvenation.
What Organizational Rejuvenation Is Not
Organizational rejuvenation is not a wellness day. It is not a meditation app subscription or a step challenge or a mental health Monday that sits adjacent to a culture of chronic overextension.
These are not wrong. They are insufficient. Because they ask individuals to rejuvenate within systems that are simultaneously depleting them and the math of that equation never resolves in the individual's favor.
Genuine organizational rejuvenation is structural. It is the deliberate redesign of the systems, norms, and operational practices that are generating the depletion in the first place.
What Structural Rejuvenation Looks Like
At Love Before ALL, the rejuvenation work we do with organizations is concrete and specific. It includes:
SOP redesign that identifies and removes the operational friction points that are generating unnecessary depletion, the redundant approval processes, the meeting structures that consume time without producing decisions, the communication norms that create urgency without creating clarity.
HR mapping that surfaces the structural drivers of team depletion where the workload is inequitably distributed, where role boundaries have eroded, where the implicit expectations of the culture have drifted far from its stated values.
Project management support that reorganizes deliverable timelines and team capacity in ways that protect human energy rather than treating it as an infinitely renewable resource.
Coaching for individual leaders that builds the daily practices, the boundaries, the rhythms, the regulatory habits that make sustained high performance possible without the collateral damage of chronic burnout.
Each of these is not a wellness initiative. It is an operational decision with measurable returns.
🧠 The Brain Science
Dr. Matthew Walker, whose research on sleep and brain function established the catastrophic cognitive cost of chronic sleep deprivation and overextension, documents that the prefrontal cortex, the seat of complex decision-making, emotional regulation, and nuanced leadership, is the first region of the brain to show functional impairment under conditions of sustained depletion. (Walker, "Why We Sleep," 2017)
The organizations that protect their people's rest and recovery are not being generous. They are protecting their cognitive infrastructure.
🎯 What LBA Elevates
The Rejuvenation work Love Before ALL offers organizations is not supplementary to the strategic plan. It is the foundation that makes the strategic plan executable.
Because you can have the right goals, the right team, and the right timeline and if the nervous systems doing the work are depleted, the cognitive capacity required to execute will not be available when you need it most.
⭐ The Practice: The Energy Audit
This week, look at your team's calendar for the next six weeks and ask one honest question: where is the structural depletion hiding?
Not the individual tiredness, the systemic patterns.
The recurring meetings that could be emails. The approval bottlenecks that create urgency without clarity. The implicit expectations that nobody has officially named but everyone is somehow managing.
That audit is the beginning of structural rejuvenation. And it is available to every leader right now, before a single SOP has been redesigned.
🌸 The Invitation
This week the invitation is to conduct the Energy Audit. Begin with your own personal audit with the free Reset, Renew, Rejuvenate resource. Access the resource here!
